From the Grand Junction Police Department
First responders with the Grand Junction Police Department and Grand Junction Fire Department responded to the area of 28 ยพ Road and North Avenue for a serious injury crash on 10/10/24 at approximately 9:10 p.m. Officers discovered a truck traveling at a high rate of speed struck a vehicle from behind, causing serious bodily injury to the other driver, who remains in the hospital. Thorough investigation revealed that the driver of the truck fled the scene prior to law enforcement arriving. The Grand Junction Police Department issued arrest warrants for the driver of the truck, Jacob Ryan Konig (42), and his passenger, Nichole Serena Melvin (36).
On 10/30/24, at approximately 1:10 a.m., Konig and Melvin turned themselves into the Mesa County Detention Facility.
Jacob Ryan Konig, age 42, is being charged with the following:
- Vehicular Assault While Driving in a Reckless Manner
- Reckless Driving
- Failed to Notify Police of Accident
- Failed to Remain on Scene After Accident
- Careless Driving Causing Bodily Injury
- Speeding (40 MPH over Prima Facie Limit)
Nichole Serena Melvin, age 36, is being charged with the following:
- Accessory to Vehicular Assault While Driving in a Reckless Manner
- Accessory to Failed to Remain at Scene/Given Information After Accident
- Attempt to Influence a Public Servant
