GRAND JUNCTION, CO — The Mesa County Coroner’s Office has identified the suspect who was killed in an officer-involved shooting following a stabbing and multi-vehicle crash on North Avenue last Friday.

According to a media release dated June 23, 2026, the deceased is identified as 31-year-old Patti Wilson, a female resident of Grand Junction.

Previous police interactions with Wilson use the name and alias Anthony “Patty” Wilson. In an incident on May 12th 2026, police charged Anthony Wilson with assault, possibly related to a mental health issue. In another May incident, Wilson was described as bi-polar and manic, with a history of violence towards law enforcement.

Following an autopsy, Coroner Dean Havlik, MD, confirmed that Wilson’s cause of death was related to two gunshot wounds sustained during the incident. Wilson was transported to a local hospital following the shooting, where she was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

The fatal confrontation occurred on the early evening of Friday, June 19, near the Dairy Queen located at 709 North Avenue. At approximately 6:30 p.m., officers responded to multiple 911 calls regarding an erratic individual armed with a knife inside the restaurant. Officers confronted Wilson inside a vehicle in the parking lot, leading to the officer-involved shooting.

Wilson subsequently fled the scene in the vehicle, striking another car as she exited the parking lot, and continued westbound before coming to a stop after colliding with multiple vehicles west of North 1st Street and North Avenue.

In addition to Wilson’s death, the Friday evening sequence of events resulted in the hospitalization of two other individuals: one person who sustained serious bodily injuries consistent with a knife assault, and another individual who was injured in the motor vehicle collisions.

The 21st Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT), led by the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, is continuing its independent investigation into the officer-involved shooting. The involved Grand Junction Police Department officers remain on administrative leave per standard agency policy.
